Why this exists

There’s too much gear advice. Not enough real help.

Hey, I’m Mike Harwood, the person behind Home Studio Grooves.

I started this site after spending years trying to make decent recordings in tight, messy spaces with limited gear and even less budget. I learned the hard way that a better studio does not begin with buying more equipment. It begins with making better decisions.

So this site focuses on the things that actually move your music forward: room layout, acoustics, DAWs, plugins, microphones, interfaces, workflow, and the small setup changes that make recording feel easier.

“You don’t need the most expensive studio. You need a setup that helps you finish the music.”
Our editorial compass

What you can expect here.

01 / USEFUL FIRST

No filler.

Every guide should help you make a decision, fix a problem, or move a project forward.

02 / REAL-WORLD

Built for real rooms.

Advice for bedrooms, spare rooms, apartments, laptops, limited budgets, and imperfect acoustics.

03 / HONEST ALWAYS

Recommendations with reasons.

Affiliate links help support the site, but they never buy a favourable opinion or a hidden endorsement.

Learn the room before you blame the gear.

Great recordings come from understanding the whole system: the space, the signal path, the software, the tools, and the person making the decisions.

That’s why Home Studio Grooves combines setup inspiration with practical explainers, reviews, and step-by-step guides you can actually use.
